It’s important to keep track of how much ink you have left and when you need to replace the cartridges. It’s even more important to actually know how to replace the cartridges. Although there is a large variety of Lexmark ink printers, you can use this guide as a general guide for any of them.
First, power up your Lexmark printer by pressing the power button. Some Lexmark printers don’t turn on with just a single tap, so hold the power button for a few seconds if you need to. You will hear the inside of the Lexmark printer move around a bit – that, of course, means you have turned it on successfully.
Next, lift the Lexmark printer cover up to reveal the inside components of the printer. There should be a cartridge release lever, lift it. Remove any ink cartridges that are inside, but try to be careful – ink may leak out. You might want to have a bag or towel nearby just in case.
Take the new ink cartridges out of their package carefully. Once the cartridge is out of the packaging it came in, locate the yellow tag (it may not be yellow, but it usually is) and slowly take it off. Be sure to only take this tag off when you’re ready to install the cartridge.
After tearing the tag off of the ink cartridge, your ink cartridge is now ready to be installed. Place the ink cartridge into the correct slot, which is indicated by the color of the cartridge release lever and the color of the ink cartridge. Make sure that you place the cartridge in the appropriate slot, otherwise you’re putting the Lexmark ink printer at risk of not working properly.
Confirm that the ink cartridge is firmly in its slot and listen for any noises – a clicking noise means you have installed the cartridge correctly. Put the printer cover back in its original place and wait while the Lexmark ink printer recognizes the new ink cartridge.
So far so good, but just one last step. Just like you did when you first used the Lexmark ink printer, print a test page. This is just to make sure that the ink cartridge is installed correctly and is working properly. Finally, dispose of the old ink cartridge you removed earlier. You can either just throw it away or find a service to recycle it.
Your Lexmark ink printer is now ready to print, enjoy!
